Cristina Bowerman is one of only a handful of female Italian chefs to hold a Michelin star and ‘two forks’, in the Gambero Rosso Guide. She is renowned for her original, creative cuisine at Glass Hostaria, a contemporary restaurant in Rome’s famous tourist area Trastevere. Bowerman was born in the town of Cerignola in southern Italy where she first developed an interest in food under the tutelage of her mother and grandmother. Despite these culinary leanings, her path to the professional kitchen was not a straightforward one, her studies encompassed law, forensics and graphic design before a stint at Higher Grounds, a coffee house in San Francisco, developed her passion for cooking. She earned a degree in Culinary Arts in 2004 in Austin, where she also worked at the city’s iconic Driskill Grill where she developed discipline and technique, working a lot on sharpness, definition and concentration of flavours. She returned to Italy in 2005 to work at the Michelin starred Convivio Troiani in Rome before taking over the kitchens at Glass Hostaria. Her food incorporates traditional Italian ingredients and cooking methods with dishes such as 60-month aged Parmesan stuffed ravioli, Isigny butter and asparagus as well as influences from her time in the United States that can be seen in creations like duck breast pastrami, peach kimchi, candied olives and spinach or wood pigeon, plantain, peanut butter, raspberry powder and fried herb. In 2012, Bowerman opened the casual restaurant, bar, deli, bakery, ice cream parlour and pizzeria Romeo Chef and Baker in a renovated former Alfa Romeo factory in Rome and is also behind the Ape Romeo food truck, Frigo, a high-quality ice cream van, and the Romeo food stall at Rome’s Testaccio market. She also oversees the food and beverage offering at Assaggio Bistrot by Autogrill at Fiumicino Airport in Rome. She has been awarded Woman Chef of the Year by Identità Golose 2013 and ‘Prize Nuove Sfide’ by Identità Golose 2016 and named Best Chef for the Year 2018 at the Festival of Italian Cuisine, in Pesaro, in June 2018. She is President of the Association of Italian Ambassadors of Taste and is a member of the Committee of the degree course in Food and Wine Sciences at the University of Roma Tre. She published her autobiography, From Cerignola to San Francisco and back – My Counter-current Life as a Chef, in 2014 and in 2015, was the only woman selected as Chef Ambassador at Expo Milano 2015.

Obsession Food Festival
Obsession first took place in 2001 and was created by Chef Ambassador Nigel Haworth and MD Craig Bancroft as a celebration of great food, wine and a meeting of friends, old and new.
From that first event, its size has grown but the ethos is still very much the same; a completely memorable culinary experience with some of the world’s most innovative chefs creating unique Obsession menus for guests to enjoy at Northcote.
